tired of losing at the battle frontier, wanna win those symbols? well ev(Effort Value) traning is the way to go.

I will talk about: what pokemon to use,natures, Iv's,Ev's, Ev spread, the traning grounds, tips, and my own pokemon. So follow along and learn something!!

First off-What pokemon to use?Well to be honest it doesnt really matter what pokemon you use. with the right natures and ev sperad ANY pokemon can be a force to reckon with. Dont let your favorite pokemon rot in the box just because they have poor stats But it is strongly recommended thet you fully evolve your pokemon to maximize performance!

Next is natures:i think having the right nature in the single most important factor in breeding, traning, or ev traning a pokemon.

all natures(except five) give a plus and a minus to stats...here is a list

Admant      +attack         -sp.atk

Bold           +defense      -attack

Brave         +Attack        -speed 

Calm           +sp.def        -attack

Careful        +sp.def        -sp.atk

Gentle         +sp.def        -defanse

Hasty          +speed        -defense

Impish         +defense      -sp.atk

Sassy          +sp.def          -speed

Timid           +speed          -defense

Bashful,Docile,Hardy,Quirky,and serious will gain no bonuses or minuses to stats.

Lets use metagross for an example...ok we have a metgross with admant(+attack,-sp.atk) and one with brave(+attack,-speed) natures. we want it to be a physical damager and it move list are so: meteor mash,ariel ace,earthquake, and brick break. Since we have all physiacl moves there is no need for sp.atk. it would be a dead stat, but with a minus in speed it would hurt you in the long run so it would be wiser to choose admant instead of brave. Natures are very important!

Next are Iv's-

Iv's are the hardest thing to accomplish,they are hidden stats then you cannot see, they are tratis passed from parent to child and they can range from 0(lowest) and 31(highest), but there is a method of finding the best out of a group. OK let's observe

we have 6 mudkip that have modest nature(+sp.atk,-attack) we want to find the best. Rasing them to level,25,50 and 100 we can determin their base stats at that level( use the duplicating glitch to creats 25-100 rare candies[warning using this glitch my erase you game but will usually restore your last saved game BUT NOT ALWAY USE AT OWN RISK].Save them game before leveling up. increase 1 mudkip by 25 levels record stats, turn off game(soft reset[A+B+select+start]). Repeat for the remaning mudkip and record stats. the one with the best stats usually and higher iv's than the rest...another way is gain access to the battle frontier(beat the elite four) and head notrh of the pokemon center and enter the building and ask and old man he will tell you the best iv' in a newly hatched pokemon.

Looking for Iv's are long and grueling but can result in a fully ev trained pokemon having an extra 31 pionts which can mean a win or a loss.

Finally Ev's(effort value)

Effort point are assigned to your pokemon after defeating another,you will gain an ev for defeating that pokemon.A pokemon can have a max of 510ev's in the 6 different stats, you can divide them up evenly(not reccomended) or put them into their best stats. A stat can have a max of 255 in each but since every 4 ev's you gain you earn a satst point it is easier to use 252 because we can divide  it by four which gaining 63 extra points.  Ok lets observe!

      We have a umbreon with a timid(+speed,-attack) nature and the following moves: double team,toxic,protect and batton pass...now we have no physical attacks or special attacks(jolly could also work in this case[+speed,-sp.atk]) we need no increased for attacks so timid,(or jolly) would be the best. we could even the ev's out but that would be pointless lets focus on the what umbreon will be used for. we will want it to be fast and be able to sustain damage so an ev spread could look loke this 252 speed 252 hp 6 in def or sp.def...now it will be fast and able to take a beating. which is what we want ( to let the pioson kill them while your evasivson increased then batton pass to a different pokemon) We could also divide 252 by 2=126 and put them in sp.def and defense instead if all in hp(you'd want to keep the ones in speed)

          Now each pokemon will give you 1,2, 0r 3 ev's when you kill them which means fighting 252 zigazoon will yield you 252 ev's in speed. Evolved forms usually give you 2-3 ev's. But ther are ways to speed up the process:

the macho brace you got for defeating the family of trainers(north of mauville) will give half as many to get.

          for example- a umbreon without macho brace would have to kill 252 pokemon zigazoon but holding a macho brace you would only need 126...and the pokerus in a special infection the you can get by landing physical attacks on many pokemon, you will know when you heal ur pokemon the nurse joy will tell you that your pokemo is sick...sick with the pokerus(it has no negative effects just double ev's gained). ok we have on umbreon that has the pokerus and the macho brace instead of 252 or 126 it will only need 63!!! thats the way to go but the pokerus is VERY RARE you have a better chance of finding a shiny!!! (use tally marks to keep track of ur pokemon killed, 1 zigzoon killed 1 point, 1 manectris killed 2 points go all the way up to 252(or 126 with macho brace) have rows of 25 tally marks and make a new row go-25,50,75,100,125,126 all in rows[itz less confusion to track pokemon killed instead in ev gained])

Vitamins-

using vitamins are help full but confusing they will give you 10 ev's in what ever stat you put them in with a max of 100 ev's(using vitamins) and a max of 51 vitamind per pokemon. example: we have a salamence- docile nature(no attribute gains) 252 in attack,252 in speed,6 in hp. We use 10 vitamins(100 ev's) in attack which leaves us 152 in attack, so killing 152 poochyenas will finish the traning(38 with macho brace and 19 with m.b and pokerus) You will not see max results until level 100, if you ev trained with the nature the stat should be between 360-400

Berries-

there are 6 berries that can help you decreace your ev's by 10

pomeg- hp

kelpsy- attack

qualot- defense

hondew- sp.atk

grepa- sp.def

tomato- speed

they are like reverse vitamins. using berries will take away 10 ev's each time you use one. they are used to correct accidentally gained ev's or to start over with a traded pokemon or an already trained one. Take all away if ev traning a pokemon to aviod confusion.

The traning grounds-

here is a list of areas and pokemon that are best for ev traning:

   East of mauville- after you surf and before the berry master you till find zigazoon and manetric for 1 speed ev and linoone and manecrtic for 2 speed ev's each

east of fallarbor town- in the ashy grass you will find spinda and slugma for 1 sp.atk each

abandoned ship if you found the part of the ship with the six rooms(you had to find the keys) fish in the area with the six rooms for tentacool for 1 sp.def and tentacruel for 2 sp.def

East of fortree in the grass by the secret base you will find poochyena for 1 attack and mightyena and absol for 2 attack

Vanturf tunnel-whimsur for 1 hp or west of the day care center in the ponds you can fight marill for 1 and azumarill for 2 hp

defense- any place with geodude and graveler

TIPS:

1. use what ever pokemon you want, with the right nature and ev spread ANy pokemon can be a beast.

2.don't forget to equip the macho brace

3.to find out if you've fully ev trained go so slateport and next to the energy guru there will be a woman who will tell you 1 of 2 things if u didnt full ev train them then she will say '' you have to go for it alittle harder if you do ill give to a gift'' if you did fully ev train them then she will say ''you went for it stupendosuly '' and she will give you an effort ribbon as a reward

4.vitamins can be tricky but well speed up the process

5. if you catch the pokerus them you can spread it to the others in ur party or the ones in ur pc.

6. remember to have enough berries to restart you ev process you dont want to have to stop and make berries.

7. you can find out what pokemon gives what ev even trainer battles: have a newly hatched pokemon(automatically no ev's) fight a pokemon and use which ever berry takes away a stat point, that will be the ev's that pokemon gives.

thunderbolt,agility,batton pass, and bite( want to change but to what?)

this team revolves around staying alive, toxic,then protect and double team(3 is good 6 is max) batton pass,attack or increace stat(calm mind or agility) and repeat, let the poison kill them(unless immune, then batton pass) while protecting and raise evasiveness,keep umbreon out as long a possible switch b4 dying or its weakness(fighting) is brought out the mswitch to espeon(not very effective), jolteon has speed and power.

ice beam,surf,recover,mirror coat or(toxic)

this team is just ground and pound, helped me get lots of wins LOTS!!
